This paper explores the role of Explainable AI (XAI) in
fostering human-AI symbiosis by making AI's decision-
making processes transparent. The concept of the “other
mind” in AI, as interpreted by John Harris, is examined
alongside J.C.R. Licklider’s “man-computer symbiosis,” to
create a theoretical framework for understanding how XAI
enables users to interpret AI behaviors as intentional and
responsive. This paper argues that XAI not only clarifies AI
outputs but also empowers users to engage in collaborative
interactions with AI, potentially enhancing trust and
adaptability.
